Kınalıada CE House
The historic CE House, located in the Kınalıada neighborhood of the Adalar district in Istanbul, has been restored to preserve its original function while meeting contemporary needs. The structure, situated on parcel 45, block 1, was structurally sound, but due to a lack of maintenance, it posed challenges for long-term use by its occupants. Therefore, the property owners sought to repair the historic building to allow for longer and safer occupancy.
As part of the project, the surrounding sidewalks were removed for safety reasons, a drainage system was renewed, and the area around the building was arranged to eliminate any potential hazards. All non-original elements in the garden were removed, and a modern and functional garden design was created using natural stone steps and ceramic coverings.
On the ground and first floors, the flooring and walls were restored using original materials, and bathrooms and kitchens were created to meet contemporary needs.
In the facade works, decayed wooden elements were replaced, weatherboard cladding and window frames were renewed with double glazing, adhering to the original details. The roof tiles were relaid, and the building was protected with waterproofing. As a result of all these interventions, the CE House has retained its historical identity while becoming suitable for modern living standards.
