Meaningful Ceremony at Seddülbahir Castle: National Architecture Award Plaque Installed
Seddülbahir Castle, with KOOP Architecture as the project author, was awarded the “Grand Prize in the Building Conservation Category” at the 19th National Architecture Exhibition and Awards organized by the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB). The award plaque was installed at the Seddülbahir Castle Museum during a ceremony held on May 30, 2025.
At the ceremony, architects, engineers, art historians, and academics who contributed to the project between 1997 and 2023 came together. Re-use Project Y. Burak Dolu author and restoration project author Arzu Özsavaşçı, along with landscape project author Cemil Aktaş, shared their views on the long process and conservation approach of the project. Important members of the scientific advisory board, such as Lucienne Thys-Şenocak, Rahmi Nurhan Çelik, and Gülsün Tanyeli, also contributed with their speeches.
The award plaque was installed in the museum by TMMOB Chamber of Architects President and UNESCO Turkey National Committee Vice President Zeynep Eres Özdoğan and Çanakkale Battles Gallipoli Historical Site President İsmail Kaşdemir together. The event emphasized that architecture is not only about producing new buildings but also carries the responsibility of protecting cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations.
